The Government Affairs team has been working with federal and state policymakers in sending letters to CMS Administrator Brooks-LaSure and HHS Secretary Becerra outlining concerns with the proposed minimum staffing rule. Review each letter below.
Federal Senate Letter – Marshall and Moran
Federal House Letter – LaTurner, Mann, and Estes
Federal House Letter – Davids
Governor Letter – Kelly
Republican State Senate Letter – Masterson, Wilborn, and Alley
Republican State House Letter – Hawkins, Carpenter, and Croft
Democratic State Senate-House Letter – Sykes, Pettey, Miller, and Winn
There were over 40 thousand comments on the rule. CMS now must review and respond to each comment and incorporate changes, if any, before releasing the finalized rule. Experts at the national level are guessing it will be at least a year before we see anything finalized – which could be further delayed if there are any administration changes during the 2024 election.
Consumers and unions are still drumming up publicity saying the rule does not go far enough. We need help from members to submit opinions to their local newspaper editors, write letters or emails to their state and federal policymakers, and share these concerns via social media. Our voices are louder when we speak together.
