KDADS: Kansas Nursing Facilities and Nursing Facilities for Mental Health Rate Setting 102 Training

KDADS is partnering with Myers and Stauffer to bring a rate setting training that goes slightly deeper than understanding the basic components of the cost reports and rate setting process for Kansas nursing homes. Read more details below.

The webinar will be presented by the State’s nursing facility rate setting contractor, Myers and Stauffer, and will dig deeper into the Kansas Medicaid nursing facility reimbursement methodology than the annual rate setting 101 presentations. Specific topics that will be discussed include nurse staffing ratios, staff retention, Medicaid occupancy, quality measures scoring, and changes of ownership and their potential impact on quality incentive components. The webinar will be repeated at two different sessions—see below for meeting links.

Time will be reserved at the end of each webinar session to address questions from participants.

If you have questions about the event, or would like to submit related topic suggestions for the webinar please email:  kdads.costreports@ks.gov

KDHE: Health Information Exchange Training Needs in Long Term Care

KDHE has been making a push to expand the number and types of providers on Health Information Exchange Networks in Kansas. There are currently four HIEs in Kansas that a provider can choose to partner with to help streamline healthcare information for Kansans across facility types. KDHE recently conducted a statewide facility survey and heard consistent themes from respondents: frequent staff turnover and limited access to up-to-date training materials are making it hard to maintain HIE proficiency and knowledge.

In response, they’ve formed a small, standing HIE Training Work Group with facility representatives and training staff from the four certified Kansas HIEs (KHIN, LACIE, Velatura, and CyncHealth). The group will meet monthly (or as needed), with the first meeting planned for January 2026. The purpose of the group will be to:

  • Identify challenges with training new staff on the use of HIE
  • Understand updates on available training materials and onboarding processes
  • Identify common challenges and training gaps
  • Coordinate on shared resources and refresher materials to support staff transitions

LeadingAge Kansas has started digging into learning more about the HIE network and organizations this Fall including meeting with KHIN and LACIE. We’ll be a part of this work group moving forward, but if you would like someone from your organization to be on as well, please send Kylee Childs the following:
