On May 17th, the U.S. Department of Labor announced the availability of $15 million in competitive grants to help address challenges the workforce system faces in training people for jobs in critical sectors, including caregiving, climate resiliency, and hospitality. The grants will enable qualifying entities, the definition of which includes national or community-based nonprofits organizations to pilot strategies for improving job quality and “increasing the availability of good jobs.” Th announcement discusses the care sector, which is defined as home care, childcare, and direct support work related to employment.
