CMS has released the latest 5-star information. Last week, LeadingAge Kansas sent all nursing home providers a personalized 5-Star Report to their organization with options for trending the QMs. CMS has made a number of changes to the 5-star report for the data released April 1, 2019.

For inspections, CMS has gone back to using the 2 or 3 most recent surveys to determine a provider’s inspection score. For staffing, CMS will now give a staffing score of 1 to any nursing home that has 4 days or more in a quarter without an RN present for 8 hours per day. Previously, a nursing home with 7 days or more in a quarter without an RN doing an 8-hour shift would receive a score of 1.

Finally, CMS has created both a short stay and long stay quality measure that are then combined, if applicable, to create an overall quality score. CMS has also dropped a quality measure, added some additional measures and re-weighted a number of quality measures.

We send these out quarterly to the main contact of the organization. This may be to the Administrator or CEO. If your organization didn’t receive one, and you would like to be on the list to receive them contact Dana Weaver.
