LeadingAge Kansas Legal Counsel Cory MacDonald of the law firm of Macdonald and Resnevic, has prepared a legal memorandum for members on a recent $2.5M settlement related to HIPAA violation that resulted from theft of an electronic mobile device that contained protected health information.  Macdonald advises members to review whether employees or contractors have resident health information on electronic devices, and, if so, the devices must be encrypted.
