Our Workforce Commission met last week in Topeka and had a great discussion.  LeadingAge Kansas staff provided an overview of the work that had been accomplished in 2016. View the recap. We also provided an update on LeadingAge National’s Workforce Initiative and how it intersects with ours. View their overview.

Short-Term Next Steps for LeadingAge Kansas includes:

  1. Get a working group of members, for-profits and allied health schools together to review current CNA curriculum and make recommendations for updates to Health Occupations and Credentialing
  2. Gather good data from various resources to see what it tells us and attempt to identify vacancy rates in the state
  3. Continue to research options for supervisory training recommendations.  Evaluate TeamSTEPPS and see where that leads us
  4. Continue work connecting with two and four year nursing schools
  5. Continue to partner with LeadingAge National and support their work on a national level with short and long-term promising practices

Workforce continues to be a major priority of LeadingAge Kansas and we will continue to focus on both short term and long-term solutions.
