We would like to give a big thank you to those members who participated in Careers in Aging Services Week! Nation-wide it was a big hit on social media. Here is what members who participated did:

Good Samaritan Society of Parsons

Administrator (and LeadingAge Kansas Board Chair) Crystal Packard, their Social Worker and Activities Director went to the local high school and spoke to about 20 students in the Jobs for America Class. They talked about jobs available in long-term care and what it was like to work in a nursing home. The students had lots of questions. They played an interactive game with the students about the 10 myths of working in a nursing home and correct answers were rewarded with candy. Several students asked if GSS Parsons was hiring. Crystal found out that the class needs to volunteer so she is working on a partnership with the school to bring them in. Before they left, the school asked Crystal to speak with the CNA class in the future. She is excited that this will turn into a great partnership between GSS and the high school.

Brewster in Topeka

Brewster hosted a Careers in Aging Day for local students. They developed a structured agenda and introduced the students to various key staff members in the organization. Joe Ewert and Lea Chaffee provided a presentation to the students about careers in aging. The students were provided tours and then had the opportunity to shadow people in select departments in the afternoon. It was a success for all! Check out their Facebook posts about it.

Bethany Home Association in Lindsborg

Bethany Home hosted a Shadow day and had local students interested in healthcare come and shadow employees in the building. They also hosted an employee appreciation day that week and highlighted staff on social media and why they like working in the field. Check out their Facebook page.
