- Problems with PEAK (some said scrap the program- others said major revision needed)

- Staff competencies
- The sort time frame between long-term care surveys and the very long time-lag between assisted living and homes plus surveys
- The need for more training and resources to meet the increasing mental health needs of residents (and staff).
- A member noted that local Mental Health Centers may be a resource for mental Health First Aid training for staff and communities.
Workforce, Foundation and Education
Dana provided updates on what’s going on with our workforce initiative, info about our Foundation scholarship program, the call for applications for the Center for Leadership, the ongoing work on the CNA Curriculum revision, and the need for high quality clinical sites.
Members shared with each other about the continuing shortage of workers across all disciplines. She highlighted the upcoming TeamSTEPPS Training program, which will combine evidence-based teamwork improvement and antipsychotic reduction. In addition she went over a number of free tools and resources available to members such as the Staff Competency Toolkit, wage information on our website, the Trauma Informed Care webinars and toolkit, and the upcoming Workforce Conference. She also led a quick discussion about the need for quality Clinical Settings for nurses and CNAs.

Legislative and Regulatory Update
Rachel provided updates on survey and enforcement trends (beware medication-related, antipsychotic and ANE citations), legislative matters, the need for all members to have their state legislators out in the next few months, the status of the multiple receiverships going on in the state, KDHE plans and timeline for transitioning the Medicaid eligibility process back to the state.
Fire Marshal Issues
Fire Marshal issues were discussed. Rachel encouraged members to contact her first with questions about compliance, rather than going to the Fire Marshal’s office, to avoid having a complaint filed for investigation by KSFM. “Customary Use” was discussed.
She also noted that she will by pulling a group of members together this summer to discuss temporary agency maters and to draft possible legislation for introduction next Session (let her know if you want to be on the task force.)
