On July 12th, LeadingAge along with three other hospice organizations and Congressman Blumenauer (D-OR) met with CMS in follow up to our 34 hospice program integrity recommendations. The meeting was with leading officials from the Center for Program Integrity and the Center for Clinical Standards and Quality.
CMS emphasized that LeadingAge and our trade association partners have been critical partners to CMS in the process of homing in on a strategy to confront the ongoing issues in hospice program integrity raised last year by ProPublica among other sources. CMS noted that we and our partners brought forward information, facts, and concrete solutions for a problem that needed and needs new thinking and broader perspective. CMS underscored that they are taking this issue very seriously and that the Administrator has been briefed multiple times on the comprehensive strategy. An article on the meeting can be found here.
