Falls are one of the biggest plagues long-term care professionals deal with daily. To provide the best care possible, communities must understand how to implement and maintain a fall prevention program. This course will describe a holistic system which utilizes a person-centered approach to manage fall risks.
Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to …
- Identify assessments that highlight factors that place residents at risk for falling
- Explain how interventions can be ascertained and implemented for each resident based upon risk factors
- Implement a community-wide assessment program to mitigate environmental risks
- Apply a root cause analysis approach to the investigation of falls
- Analyze internal, external and systemic factors related to resident falls
- Identify and appraise patterns, trends and correlations of falls for each individual and the community
- Design a competency-based education program for all members of the interdisciplinary team
