When we were out on roundtables a couple of weeks ago, members in some locations told us about difficulty training, finding and keeping Certified Dietary Managers. They also reported that they receive deficiencies if they have a person in training, but not yet certified, and if they have made good faith efforts to recruit CDM without success. We did a little more investigating and learned that 50 long term care providers received a CDM-related state tag under KAR 28-39-158(a) in 2015, 48 in 2016 and 27 so far in 2017. The scope and severity for this tag is not higher than an F. Because it is a state tag, it is not considered Substandard Quality of Care. We are asking KDADS officials if the regulatory compliance requirements will change, and how they will change, with the new federal Requirements of Participation.
