LeadingAge participated in a call with CMS on February 2nd to learn more about schizophrenia audits for nursing homes. These audits, announced in QSO-23-05-NH will utilize MDS data to identify patterns of potentially erroneous coding of schizophrenia on the MDS for assumed purposes of justifying antipsychotic usage. Nursing homes will be notified of their selection for audit by certified mail and additional information will be provided on the audit process. Nursing homes selected for audit also have the option to attest to erroneous coding prior to beginning the audit. All nursing homes selected for audit will be monitored by CMS and the state survey agency will be notified of the identified pattern. Read more here
