The 2nd Annual Careers in Aging Services week is right around the corner. Our combined efforts last year caught national attention and will be rolled out nation-wide in conjunction with LeadingAge National, The Gerontological Society of America, American Health Care Association/Center for Assisted Living and Argentum. One of our own members, Robert Scott, General Manager of Culinary at Bluestem Communities in Hesston will be highlighted. Rob received a scholarship from the LeadingAge Kansas Foundation a couple of years ago to get his culinary degree.

Join Us on the Planning Call

There will be a call/webinar for all providers to join in on February 8, 2019 at 2 PM to talk about ways you can participate. Contact Dana Weaver for details.

What’s Happening in Kansas?

Locally, we will celebrate much like we did last year. We have expanded the focus to an entire week to provide an opportunity for members to have more flexibility to host students or take their team to schools.

Last year we had a number of members participate with a variety of activities. Here are a few examples:

  1. Bethany Home in Lindsborg hosted local high school students with a shadow experience.
  2. Village Manor in Abilene and Logan Manor Community Health Services in Logan brought some of their team to the local high school and did a presentation to a class. (Village Manor even got a new employee on the spot!)
  3. Cheyenne County Village (formerly Good Samaritan Society of Cheyenne County) partnered with other healthcare providers in their community to provide tours and showcase healthcare jobs.

Here is the link to the Careers in Aging Services Week Toolkit that includes ideas, resources and other information.

If you would like to participate, please contact Dana Weaver at 1.800.264.5242 or dana@leadingagekansas.org .
