Legislative Update – After Turnaround

Last week was turnaround time for the Kansas Legislature, meaning any bills that were not able to pass out of committee and receive a favorable vote on the floor are unable to continue in the process this session (unless they’ve received a blessing from leadership). After some discussions with HB2339 being tabled in House Commerce last week, LeadingAge Kansas worked with Representative Wasinger to get a bill reintroduced in House Appropriations which addresses faculty requirements for nursing programs to hold only one degree higher than what they are teaching.

LeadingAge Kansas plans to submit testimony on HB2294, a childcare bill, in House Commerce this week asking for language on the intergenerational childcare fund from HB2339 to be included. All bills, exempt or non-exempt, that are still alive this session have to pass out of their respective chambers by March 21 to be eligible to become law or be conferenced into a conference committee report the following week.
