Several LeadingAge Kansas members have asked about the Fire Marshal inspector qualifications and training requirements. Here’s the skinny:
CMS requires State Agency (LSC) surveyors to obtain a National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Certified Fire Inspector 1 (CFI1) certification. The student must pass the NFPA exam and complete 7 practicum exercises. The purpose of the CFI-1 is to ensure that all surveyor candidates have a basic knowledge of fire protection and the LSC as necessary to participate effectively in the BLSC course. A candidate for NFPA CFI-1 certification must, at a minimum, have a high school diploma or equivalent.
