As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, the Medicaid Pending eligibility processing is affected. Below are some points to consider that will help KDHE’s management of staffing shortages. Please let me know if there is a large case that you feel is ready to be processed but has not yet been reviewed and I will have that escalated to the appropriate team.
In response to the growing COVID-19 outbreak, the President of the United States and Governor Kelly have declared a state of emergency. The KanCare eligibility group is implementing the following changes due to staffing impacts:
- As previously reported, walk-In in person consultation are no longer accepted until further notice. School closings and potential quarantine measures may impact our staffing levels.
- Due to quarantine measures as well as those considered at risk, staffing levels have been impacted. Due to this, KDHE eligibility workers will no longer be answering the inbound phone calls made directly to the Units phone numbers. Supervisor, myself, and/or eligibility workers will continue to return voicemail’s as quickly as we can with limiting interruptions with completing eligibility determinations.
- We ask for your patience as we process and prioritize requests based on urgency and the received date of the request.
- We appreciate your cooperation by limiting phone calls, emails, and spreadsheet concerns to those that have been pending for a determination for more than 45 days. Please refrain from inquiring on cases where information was recently submitted, this would include checking for a status update for HCBS or NF coding when the consumer was recently screened or recently admitted.
