Feds Mandate Nursing Home Staff Vaccine as Condition of Receiving Mandate Federal Funding

LeadingAge National understands this will be implemented by Interim Final Rule (not published yet), which means it will not be run through the typical process that can take months. No word yet when the interim rule will be effective.    Once the rule is published, there will be a public comment period, at the end of which the rule will be allowed to stand or rescinded. 

 LeadingAge Kansas members have voiced real and serious fears that a mandate will cause workers to quit. Another opinion we have heard strongly is that, if vaccination is required for nursing homes, it should be required for other health care settings. A few members have voiced support for a government mandate.

LeadingAge Kansas members are urged to email their members of Congress to let them know where they stand on requiring staff vaccination, including rationale.

New Materials from CDC for SNF and Assisted Living Providers
Earlier this week CDC shared the attached materials that SNF and assisted living providers can use to support and encourage staff to be vaccinated.  The new materials include posters, social media posts, and other items.  In addition, CDC compiled this list of links of existing web resources for nursing home and, in some instances, other providers:
