7-15-21 KDHE COVID-19 Update for Local Partners Webinar

Kansas highlights:

• See Slide 8 – Sharp increase in new cases since last week
• Slide 9 – hospitalizations relatively flat
• Slide 10 – Deaths slightly decreasing
• Slide 11 – 1155 new cases and 8 new deaths reported between July 12^th and July 14^th.
• Slide 13 – 9 active clusters in LTC facilities
• Slide 14 – 69 Kansas counties have confirmed variants, the vast majority of which are the Delta variant

CDC Update

• Post-COVID Conditions — This recent update provides a brief overview of the types of post-COVID conditions, prevention strategies, and work CDC is doing related to post-COVID conditions. These post-COVID conditions may also be known as long COVID, long-haul COVID, post-acute COVID-19, long-term effects of COVID, or chronic COVID. CDC and experts around the world are working to learn more about short- and long-term health effects associated with COVID-19, who gets them, and why.

• COVID-19 Science Update — To help inform CDC’s COVID-19 Response, as well as to help CDC staff stay up to date on the latest COVID-19 research, the Response’s Office of the Chief Medical Officer has collaborated with the CDC Office of Library Science to create a series called COVID-19 Science Update. This week’s update includes information on Age-related immune response heterogeneity to SARS-CoV-2 vaccine BNT162b2.  

Consensus Statement on Mandating Vaccine for Post-Acute and LTC Staff
This week AMDA and six other associations issued a Consensus Statement recommending COVID-19 vaccines as a condition of employment in post-acute and long-term care settings. The statement explains what organizations should consider in developing a policy requiring COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. It covers safety and efficacy of vaccines, legal considerations, advantages to having a fully vaccinated workforce, and how to create exceptions.
