Don’t Throw Away Extra BinaxNOW Cards With an Imminent Expiration Date
Abbott recently filed with the FDA to have a longer expiration period for all lots of tests in the field. They expect the FDA will approve a 12-month expiration date for BinaxCards. The cards that are being sent from HHS have an expiration date on the boxes of 6 months so some of the tests you received in the fall may be reaching that date but don’t throw them out! LeadingAge National is tracking this issue and will provide an update as soon as they hear from Abbott.

Eye Protection
CDC recommends eye protection as part of COVID-19 PPE during “patient care encounters” but has recently clarified on public calls that they do not intend eye protection to be worn outside of patient care, unless doing so according to PPE optimization strategies.
