The Infection Preventionist Role in QAPI
The regulatory guidance under F868 requires the Infection Preventionist to be an integral part of the QAPI Committee. It will be the responsibility of the Infection Preventionist to participate in and report to the QAPI Committee Infection Prevention and Control activities in the nursing home. The role also includes reporting and monitoring transmission-based precautions and antibiotic stewardship.

Phase 3 regulatory guidance requires nursing homes to have an effective ethics and compliance program. They must provide compliance and ethics education for all staff working in nursing homes annually. Long term care facilities must establish written compliance and ethics standards, policies, and procedures.

Phase 3 Training Requirements for SNFs
Long term care facilities have new requirements for training under Phase 3. Nursing Homes must develop, implement, and maintain an effective training program for all new and existing staff; individuals providing services under a contractual arrangement; and volunteers, consistent with their expected roles.
