Hourly pay increased while turnover rates decreased in 2018 for nursing home RNs and LPNs, according to the 2018-2019 HCS Nursing Home Salary & Benefits Report. The national study is published by Hospital & Healthcare Compensation Service (HCS), in cooperation with LeadingAge National and AHCA.
In 2018 RN hourly rates increased 3.10%, while LPN rates increased 2.43%. This represents a slight decrease from the 2017 increase of 3.33% for RNs and 2.65% for LPNs. The Report showed the 2018 national average hourly rate was $29.11 for RNs and $22.72 for LPNs.
Turnover rates decreased for both jobs in 2018 after having steadily increased since 2015. 2018 RN turnover was 33.94%; LPN turnover was 28.83%.

This year marks the 41st annual year of publication. 1,494 nursing homes participated in the study and provided compensation data on 127,000+ employees, covering 46 management and 53 nonmanagement positions. The results are reported according to revenue size, profit type, region, state, and CBSA. The Report also includes 18 fringe benefits, shift differentials, and projected salary increases by department for 2018 to 2019.
