LeadingAge National is embarking on a plan focused on attracting people to working in the rich variety of aging services. One of their goals is to work more closely with people and organizations at the state and local level, not only because they are the ones creating jobs, but also because they are concerned about who will care for the aging adults in their communities. Here is a one-pager that briefly explains this initiative.
Specifically, they are interested in learning if you know of coalitions in your state or community around attracting people to work in aging services. These coalitions could include LeadingAge member communities, people from the education sector (community colleges, high schools, etc.), workforce (investment boards, etc.), business (Chamber of Commerce, etc.) and state and local officials (county officials, mayors, etc.). Alternatively, you may know of workforce development coalitions around other areas, such as health care, but who would be interested in expanding to working with aging services.
The goal at LeadingAge National is to build on current efforts — and build new ones by replicating successful activities. If you know of any groups in your area that are focused on workforce in aging services, please send the info to Susan Hildebrand.
