As of July, 2017, Kansas far surpasses every other state in the country when it comes to immediate jeopardy citations. Nursing Home Compare data shows that quality measures in Kansas nursing homes are comparable to the three other states in our CMS region. And yet, IJ citations in Kansas are given at a rate 30 times higher than in Nebraska, 15 times higher than in Missouri, and 3 times higher than in Iowa.

LeadingAge Kansas has been working hard for more than a year now, advocating for reform in the nursing home survey and enforcement process and raising the alarm on what has been happening in Kansas. We continue to receive assistance and support from our members of Congress, and are continuing our advocacy with state and federal agencies.

We still need your help. We are collecting survey and enforcement stories that demonstrate the unfair nature of the immediate jeopardy citations, and the harm it brings to your ability to operate and serve your residents. Have a story to share? Rachel would love to hear it, send her an email.
