The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) released two reports last week that will be of interest to nursing homes. The first was the report of another state-level audit on Life Safety Code, Emergency Preparedness, and Infection Control. This audit was another in a long list of audits conducted since 2018. Read this article for more background info. Access the latest state-level audit report here.

OIG also released a report on November 7th related to the use of Medicare claims data to identify abuse and neglect. This report follows up on a report released in 2019 and modifies recommendations for actions CMS can take. Read the report here. LeadingAge will be keeping an eye on this work because although the report focuses broadly on claims filed on behalf of all Medicare beneficiaries, not just those residing in nursing homes or other healthcare settings, it has the potential to impact policies in CMS certified settings like how abuse and neglect is identified, reported, and surveyed.
