We have been hearing from providers that RUGS CMI calculations are inaccurate after the new MDS changes rolled out October 1st. LeadingAge National has spoken with CMS on the issue, and CMS deferred the blame to software companies, however, software companies have stated that with the regulation changes, RUGS III will not be accurately calculated with the new MDS system, and it will require an OSA to track the discrepancies.

The state of Kansas decided not to move forward with an OSA and transition straight to PDPM on July 1, 2024. LeadingAge Kansas is working with National and KDADS to identify the best way to address the issues without negatively compromising CMI or submitting assessments late.

If your MDS coordinator has faced these issues, send the examples to Kylee Childs.
