Following the pause in annual Medicaid renewals brought on by the pandemic, states are undergoing efforts to determine eligibility for all 93 million individuals before July of 2024. Through this effort, some states have reported procedural, or paperwork-related, terminations for more than 80% of completed determinations. CMS reviewed submitted data and paused the process in several states to work through issues where states have not met CMS requirements. CMS did not name states as their support and collaboration continues. KFF maintains a tracker with data on disenrollments. As of July 19th, more than 3 million individuals have seen their Medicaid coverage terminated.
