• New KDHE Infection Preventionist (IP) Orientation
This tool is a guide to help IPs, novice and experienced, in finding education and resources for the various duties within an IPs purview. It is organized around the six future-oriented competency domains identified in APIC’s competency model (click here to visit the image webpage). Each section includes relevant chapters from the APIC text as well as additional articles from peer-reviewed journals and application activities to support learning.  This document serves as a companion to APIC’s Roadmap for the Novice Infection Preventionist, diving further into available resources for each topic. A novice IP could use this guide to help train them on their new position. An experienced IP could use it as a refresher or, if they feel there are areas in which they are not as experienced, can focus on those specific areas to bolster their knowledge. Contact Bryna Stacey bryna.stacey@ks.gov, Program Director for KDHE’s Healthcare-Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance (HAI/AR) section for more information, questions or comments.
  • CDC’s Project Firstline, a new educational initiative
This is a collaborative of diverse healthcare and public health partners that have come together to build a library of infection prevention and control (IPC) education for the multitude of frontline healthcare workers, using input from those same frontline workers. The COVID-19 pandemic has certainly shone a light on gaps that exist as well as the importance of at least a basic knowledge of IPC.  The intention of Project Firstline is to not only create more education for frontline healthcare workers, but to try to understand what the true needs are from all of the many different types of workers in healthcare (from bedside nurses, to providers, to EVS staff) and to use that to drive the creation of the training and materials. Please visit their website to find tools and trainings:. And remember to check back at the site as the intent is for them to keep adding as they create more content.
