KANSAS UPDATES
KDADS releases FAQ on Adult Care Home Re-Opening Guidelines
KDADS has released an FAQ document for re-opening guidance based upon the questions posed during their webinars with providers. The FAQ document will be updated as more answers come in from KDHE.
PASSR 30 Day Extension
KDADS announced another 30 day extension for PASSR assessmentseffective June 24, 2020. The extension is needed due to assessors still unable to enter most nursing homes in the state.
Fire Marshal Guidance on Large Quantities of Hand Sanitizer
The office of the state fire marshal has passed along the following message:
We have received word that FEMA is distributing 55 gal drums of hand sanitizer and some is possibly headed to Kansas. Please see the attached sheet for large quantities of ABHR.
Note: This will not allow a 55-gallon drum of hand sanitizer in any of the buildings OSFM regulates.
Nurse License Renewal-Important Update. Executive Order No 20-39 that extends the expiration date of nursing licenses will expire on 6/30/2020. Nurses who have licenses that were to expire in March, April, May and June 2020 must have their licenses renewed by September 28, 2020. Those licenses will lapse if not renewed by that date. The mandatory continuing education requirement must be met at the time of renewal.
KanCare Oversight Legislative Committee
The quarterly KanCare Oversight Committee met at the statehouse Monday and Tuesday to hear testimony from Medicaid providers and state agencies a large variety of issues surrounding the Medicaid program. The legislative hearing obviously contained a lot of testimony about COVID-19 and the effects on providers and consumers. You can watch/listen to the hearing on YouTube. CMS Issues Visitation FAQs
This week CMS issued an FAQ document to clarify many questions surrounding visitation during the nursing home re-opening process. The FAQ provides clarification around visitation and communal activities before reaching phase 3 in their guidance, as well as what qualifies as a compassionate care situation.
New CMS Memo Revokes PBJ Waiver
CMS released a new memo yesterday that revokes the waiver suspending PBJ reporting during the state of emergency. Providers must submit their 2nd quarter staffing data by August 14th. The memo also states that staffing measures and quality measures will remain frozen on data ending December 31, 2019 with an exception for the automatic staffing downgrades. If a home received an automatic one star for failing to report or for having four or more days with a registered nurse, that will be removed from their nursing home compare page until new data can be submitted and posted.
