As skilled health care becomes increasingly dependent on the use of electronic health records, it brings to mind the need to be proficient – not just knowledgeable – with your EHR system. I was recently speaking with a peer who mentioned their EHR platform didn’t update some of the fee schedules automatically. I know that some do as part of their regular monthly maintenance. Are you aware of what is updated and what is not? It might be helpful to schedule some training or retraining on your platform, even if you are a long time user. You might pick up some faster ways of entering data or perhaps you were unaware of a feature that could help with billing or statements. Lastly, look for ways to integrate disparate platforms together to eliminate the need for imports, exports or manual entry. Some companies do not charge for ‘sync’ services and this can save you a lot of time and errors.
