Great relationships with our MDS Coordinators/RNACs are critical to financial success in a SNF. Members that provide nursing home services need to ensure that these critical team members have great support and have a clear understanding of their importance as it impacts regulatory outcomes, 5-star ratings and financial outcomes. In the last years, CMS has alerted SNFs that it will begin to penalize providers for not fully completing and MDS or “dashing out” certain sections. By continuing this practice, providers face up to a 2% penalty on their Part A reimbursement.
In an effort to let providers know how they are performing, CMS has released a long-awaited, crucial new report for the Skilled Nursing Facility Quality Reporting Program (SNF QRP) called the Provider Threshold Report (PTR). The PTR can be found in the “SNF Quality Reporting Program” category in the CASPER Reporting system. It is in the same folder as other items for the SNF QRP, such as the Provider Preview Reports (PPR), which just show a SNF’s performance on the quality measure.
HERE is information from CMS outlining which sections of the MDS are being evaluated for the 2% penalty.
