According to PHI (a long-term care workforce thinktank) 2018 was a remarkable year for the direct care workforce. Organizations released an array of research and policy reports that deepened our knowledge on these workers, while journalists delved deeper into this topic, exploring the effects on this workforce of immigration, sexual harassment, and more.

State and federal advocates advanced policy measures to strengthen data collection, fund geriatrics training, and support family caregivers, as three examples. And providers launched initiatives to improve home care jobs in rural areas, as well as to tap the power of technology to enhance direct care.
