COVID-19 Cases in Kansas as of August 3, 2020: The state releases information on COVID-10 statistics every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. As of August 3, the statewide case rate continues to rise and is now 9.91/1,000 people. There were 42 active outbreaks (i.e. clusters) in long term care facilities (compared to 35 last Friday). A total of 193 fatalities have occurred in long term care facilities. More information, including county-specific cases.

Weekly Webinars Have Been Extended Through August
As one of the most popular communication vehicles during the pandemic, our weekly webinars will continue through the month of August. If we continue to get high participation, we will extend through September. Make sure to register for next week.

KDADS sent a survey on PPE to all Kansas adult care homes on July 10^th as a step to develop their plan to fulfill the new requirement for KDADS to furnish PPE to adult care homes. Nearly half of the 800 organizations queried responded. When asked what the obstacles are to getting PPE, the largest response was “suppliers do not have inventory.” When asked if they had an adequate PPE supply, the average response based on licensure/certification type ranged from 40-80%. About 65% of respondents that had contacted their local emergency manager for PPE had received some. 80% of respondents reported that they have an agreement with a certified lab for COVID-19 testing (varied by licensure/certification type.) On average 64% reported they had access to testing kits, although, again, there was wide variation by licensure/certification type. See KDADS report on the PPE survey results. We will learn more about KDADS plan to provide PPE to adult care homes, as passed in HB 2016, when we meet with them on Tuesday.
